Whole blood, serum or plasma. Whole blood is easiest on-farm — a small drop from the coccygeal vein is enough per test.

It is not a human product and is not intended for use as a human pregnancy or fertility test.
The RingbioSA bovine pregnancy rapid test detects PSPB (Pregnancy-Specific Protein B), a placental glycoprotein that appears in cattle blood from approximately 30 days post-AI and remains detectable through gestation. A visual result appears on the test cassette in 10-15 minutes from whole blood, serum or plasma. No lab, no reader, no incubator required.
Why PSPB testing
Rectal palpation identifies pregnancy from around 35-40 days but requires an experienced palpator and is more invasive to the cow. Ultrasound gives an earlier answer but needs capital equipment and trained operators. PSPB testing gives a comparable-timeframe answer using a single blood draw — a workflow any AI technician or farm assistant can run in the crush. That makes it practical for high-throughput operations that would otherwise queue for a vet or ultrasound day.
Sample and workflow
Sample: whole blood, serum or plasma. A few millilitres from the tail vein or jugular.
Storage before testing: up to 24 hours at room temperature; longer refrigerated.
Test time: 10-15 minutes. Two visible lines confirm pregnancy, one line indicates not pregnant, follow the cassette instructions for interpretation edge cases.

Approximately 30-35 days post-AI: first PSPB check to identify open cows quickly for re-breeding, minimising days-open in the herd.
Around 60 days: confirmation check on previously-positive cows to rule out early embryonic loss before recording pregnancy in the herd management system.
